Deployment Health Assessments (DHAs) provide snapshots of a service member’s physical and behavioral health, helping to identify any conditions or health issues that may impact readiness for deployment. They also help identify deeper issues that might cause stress for service members.
The Deployment Health Assessment (DHA) program supports the Department of Defense’s health protection strategy by minimizing illnesses and identifying health issues before, during, and after deployment. The DHA evaluates physical and mental health problems as well as stress injuries and other health concerns. It is completed by a healthcare provider who records the results in the soldier’s permanent medical records.
What is The Deployment Health Assessment (DHA)?

In addition, the PDHRA is mandatory for any Service member separating from the Navy or Marine Corps.
Reserve Health Readiness Program
The Reserve Health Readiness Program (RHRP) is designed to ensure that National Guard and Reserve personnel are properly assessed and ready to deploy. This program is a three-phase process that helps Soldiers prepare for deployment by ensuring that they are physically, psychologically, and socially prepared. The process helps ensure that Soldiers return from deployment with fewer medical issues.
During a deployment, Soldiers must complete a deployment health assessment. This assessment ensures that all members of the military are fully medically ready. It is required by DODI 6490.3 and must be completed by all members. In addition, service members need to have timely access to health screenings.
The RHRP provides health assessment services to Reserve and National Guard units through scheduled readiness group events or on a need basis. Pre-deployment health assessments include dental care, vaccinations, and more. Individually vouchered in-clinic visits are also available. Additionally, the RHRP has a call center that completes post-deployment assessments.
Individual Defense Eligibility System
